A pan-African initiative to advance gender equality in the maritime sector — Ports & Infrastructure, Fisheries & Aquaculture, Shipbuilding, Transport & Logistics, Maritime Energy, Maritime Services, Defence & Security, Science & Environment, Tourism & Leisure
CONTEXT & AMBITION
Maritimafrica Associated, a pan-African media group and strategic consultancy, announces the official launch of the “Her Maritime” campaign, an initiative dedicated to the inclusion and advancement of women in the maritime sector. The campaign is launched on the occasion of the International Day for Women in Maritime, celebrated every year on May 18 and established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
In 2026, the theme chosen by the IMO for this international day is: ” From Policy to Practice: Advancing Gender Equality for Maritime Excellence.” A direct call to move from declaratory commitments to concrete action — a call that fully resonates with the mission of Maritimafrica Associated.
Building on its integrated ecosystem of specialized media brands covering maritime, aviation, transport, logistics, supply chain, and transport corridors, Maritimafrica Associated positions itself as the first pan-African group to orchestrate, at this scale, a multisectoral visibility and mobilization campaign for women in Africa’s blue economy.
CAMPAIGN THEME & SLOGAN
The Her Maritime campaign is built around the slogan:
“Anchor Equality — Women Move Maritime Forward“
The anchor, a universal maritime symbol, represents here the embedding of equality policies into real professional practices. The movement — “move forward” — embodies the active and irreplaceable contribution of women to excellence across these strategic sectors.
ACTIVITIES FROM MAY 15, 2026
The Her Maritime campaign launches on May 15, 2026, around five flagship editorial formats deployed simultaneously across all platforms and media of Maritimafrica Associated:
- Interviews & Portraits — At the heart of the campaign, encounters with women driving Africa’s blue economy every day: captains, port officers, logistics managers, freight agents, engineers, corridor directors. Their journeys, their obstacles, their vision.
- Investigations — Editorial investigations into the reality of women’s inclusion in the maritime, aviation, logistics, and supply chain sectors in Africa: recruitment practices, access to training, wage gaps, working environments.
- Testimonials — Direct, unfiltered accounts from women in the sector: their successes, their daily battles, the doors they have opened and those they found closed.
- Analysis & Data — Sector data and insights on the place of women in Africa’s blue economy, produced by the editorial and sector intelligence teams of Maritimafrica Associated.
- Advocacy — Op-eds, calls to action, and position statements addressed to African institutions, companies, and decision-makers, so that political commitments in favour of equality finally translate into concrete practices.
CAMPAIGN DISTRIBUTION & MEDIA ECOSYSTEM
The Her Maritime campaign benefits from maximum reach through the mobilization of Maritimafrica Associated’s own media, a network of specialized partner media, and the African Blue Journalists Network.
Maritimafrica Associated’s Own Media Brands
Maritimafrica Associated deploys the campaign simultaneously across two of its specialized editorial platforms:
- Maritimafrica (www.maritimafrica.com) — Pan-African reference media on the maritime sector and Blue economy: ports, ships, regulation, and key players.
- Logis-T Africa (www.logistafrica.com) — Media dedicated to logistics, freight transport, and the supply chain in Africa.
Partner Media
Specialized partner media join and amplify the Her Maritime campaign across their own platforms and audiences:
- Africa Blue Economy (www.africablueeconomy.com) — Portal dedicated to Africa’s blue economy in all its dimensions: marine resources, fisheries, offshore energy, coastal tourism.
- Ports Africa (www.portsafrica.com) — Reference media on African ports, port infrastructure, and cargo handling.
- Blue Women Africa (www.bluewomenafrica.com) — Platform entirely dedicated to the visibility and recognition of women in the maritime and blue economy sectors across Africa.
- MalkiAfrica (www.malkiafrica.com) — Pan-African media dedicated to business development, economic opportunities, and key players in the African economy.
- TAM Africa (www.tamafrica.com) — Media specialized in economic and sector news across the African continent.
The African Blue Journalists Network
The Her Maritime campaign is also supported and amplified by the African Blue Journalists Network, a pan-African network bringing together media professionals specialized in covering the blue economy, maritime affairs, fisheries, the marine environment, and related industries across the continent.
This network is a key lever for ensuring high-quality editorial coverage, grounded in local and sub-regional African realities, and for multiplying the campaign’s reach beyond digital borders.
Together, Maritimafrica Associated’s media brands, the partner media, and the African Blue Journalists Network form an unprecedented distribution platform for a women’s visibility campaign in Africa’s blue economy.
STATEMENT
“Her Maritime is not just another campaign. It is the first public demonstration of what Maritimafrica Associated wants to be: a group that does not merely accompany the transformation of the maritime sector, but one that drives it. Women in these sectors deserve visibility, recognition, and real access to opportunities. That is exactly what we are building with them, for them, and through them with this campaign.”
— Pascaline Odoubourou, Managing Director of Maritimafrica Associated
