Signing of MoU between Seychelles Fisheries Authority (SFA) and the Association of Fish Processors Seychelles (AFPES)

On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, the Seychelles Fisheries Authority (SFA) & The Association of Fish Processors Seychelles (AFPES) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for Seychelles’ participation in the Seafood Global EXPO that will be held in Barcelona between 6th to 8th May 2025.

This event gathers the primary nations and commercial players in the global seafood processing industry in one spot annually, to promote and trade their products and services.

Through the MoU, the SFA has agreed to allocate a budget of SCR 500,000 (Five Hundred Thousand Seychelles Rupees) to support Seychelles’ participation and AFPES’ exhibition at the event. AFPES and its members have agreed to be responsible for the costs and logistics involved in providing fresh tuna for tasting at the stand (as sashimi).

The agreement was signed by Dr. Jan Robinson the Chief Executive Officer of SFA and Mr. Louis Bossy, Chairman of AFPES.

CEO Robinson emphasized the importance of sustainability this year, noting that the yellowfin tuna stock has recovered from red to green status. He expressed optimism that this will increase demand in European markets. “We’re now able to say that we are exporting a sustainable product through the rebuilding of the stocks, so it is a very positive story we’re going with this year.” He said.

This is the third consecutive year that the SFA has supported the private sector in participating in the event. During the EXPO, participants will have the chance to network, explore new markets, and discover export opportunities. Additionally, the event will provide exposure to new tools and equipment.
