The Ministry of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries officially launched the Pre-Consultative Dialogues, this morning, at The Docks in Port Louis, ahead of Les Assises de l’Océan 2025. The ten-day series of meetings, scheduled from 07 to 18 October 2025, will bring together representatives from the private sector and international partners to discuss sustainable ocean development and the future of Mauritius’s blue economy.
The opening ceremony, held under the theme ‘Climate Change, Biodiversity and Conservation,’ was attended by the Minister of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries, Dr Arvin Boolell; the Junior Minister of the Ministry of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries, Mr Gilles Fabrice David; and other personalities.
In his address, Dr Boolell underscored the importance of an all-inclusive, results-oriented approach to building a resilient blue economy in Mauritius. He stressed that the blue economy must be protected amid the growing challenges of climate change and marine degradation. Highlighting the need for collective responsibility and collaboration across all sectors, he emphasised that no one should be left behind in the effort to safeguard the nation’s marine resources.

Dr Boolell further called for legislative adaptation and a unified approach among stakeholders to ensure that the potential of the sea remains a shared asset for all Mauritians. He pointed out the importance of developing a common roadmap with key partners, including the European Union, and reaffirmed Government’s commitment to fostering forward-thinking policies and partnerships that position Mauritius as a model for sustainable development, guided by inclusivity, collaboration, and shared ambition.
For his part, Junior Minister David spoke about Les Assises de l’Océan 2025 as a unifying platform that brings together diverse stakeholders to advance a regenerative blue economy, one that not only safeguards and restores marine ecosystems but also promotes sustainable economic growth for Mauritius. He emphasised that the initiative goes beyond traditional sustainability, focusing on long-term benefits for both the environment and the nation’s economy.
The Junior Minister also paid tribute to the nation’s fishermen and women, acknowledging that their knowledge and dedication have long been the foundation of Mauritius’s marine heritage. He thus described Les Assises de l’Océan 2025 as a bridge connecting present and future generations, built on a shared and collaborative vision for a blue, sustainable, and regenerative ocean economy.
