The Selstad Group and Badinotti Group have established a joint venture, Maisma Net Services, a shared production facility for aquaculture and fishery equipment in Morocco. By cooperating, the two companies now offer one of the largest capacities in the industry of equipment and services to their customers in aquaculture and fisheries worldwide.
The joint venture between the two family companies makes a strong alliance. The Selstad Group is a supplier of design, equipment and services to ocean-based industries in Northern and Western Europe, South Africa and Asia-Pacific. The Badinotti Group delivers integrated solutions for fish containment and is based in Southern and Central Europe, South America, Northamerica and Northern Africa.
CEO of the Selstad Group, Hans Petter Selstad sees great potential in the venture: “As two family-owned companies sharing the same values, we have found a natural synergy in our global production and service sites, complementing each other’s expertise. The location in Morocco, close to Europe, will allow us to reduce delivery times and ensure high standards of quality control.”
President of the Badinotti Group, Giancarlo Badinotti, shares the optimistic view on the cooperation: “We are very pleased with our partnership with Selstad. We believe there is a natural complementarity between our markets, products, and capabilities. Additionally, we share values as family-owned businesses, which allows us to have a long-term vision for our operations. We feel that sharing common values and visions is the key requirement for this type of agreement, and with the Selstad team, it has been a perfect match.”
The Badinotti Group recently announced their acquisition of Maisma Morocco SARL, located in Larache, Morocco. At this site, Badinotti Group and Selstad Group have established a joint venture and will create a production facility for trawls and aquaculture cages using an abundant number of netting materials.
Christian Torres, CEO of Badinotti Group, said: “Badinotti’s strategy is built on four key pillars, one of which is our global expertise and vision, while always striving for a local presence, either directly or through top-tier partners. This goal is fully realized with Selstad, with whom we share a common history and values in advancing aquaculture and fishing on a global scale. From our side, we bring 114 years of experience in fish containment solutions across Chile, Canada, Peru, the United States, and Europe to this joint venture in Morocco, and we are confident that the exchange of diverse experiences will be crucial to the success of this new partnership. “
Generations of know-how
Selstad Group and Badinotti Group were both started as family businesses: Badinotti by the Badinotti family in Italy in 1910 and Selstad by the Selstad family in Norway in 1953. “In Selstad, we have established a solid understanding of aquaculture and fisheries through generations of design and production of various equipment for these industries. Thereby, we can offer the expertise and quality that our customers expect,” Hans Petter Selstad explains.
“Both our companies have been in the industry for a long time, and we always strive to be top innovators. In working together, we get to combine generations of experience and a strong understanding of our products.”
Today, Selstad Group has a workforce of over 500 employees, whereas Badinotti Group has over 1,100. Selstad had a turnover last year of EUR 120 million, and Badinotti Group had a turnover of EUR 70 million in 2023.
Christian Torres, CEO of Badinotti Group, and Hans Petter Selstad, CEO of Selstad Group, stated: “This joint venture marks a significant milestone for both Selstad and Badinotti, as we combine Selstad’s expertise in design solutions from the North Atlantic with Badinotti’s extensive experience in net production and fish containment across the southern oceans. Together, we are creating a powerful partnership that will provide innovative solutions to meet the growing demands of the global aquaculture and fisheries industries. We are excited to see the positive impact of our combined strengths and look forward to the new opportunities this collaboration will bring.”
