The Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, has outlined the Ministry’s 2025 Budget, amongst which include the provision of life jackets to riverine communities to enhance safety following increased incessant boats mishap caused by rising traffic on Inland Waterways.
The Minister said this during the 2025 budget defence before the joint committee of the Senate on Marine Transport and House Committee on ports and Harbour, Maritime Safety, Education and Administration, Inland Waterways and shipping services at the National Assembly.
“Our planned initiative include replacing old wooden boats with standard crafts for commercial transport and undertaking capital dredging of critical river locations to improve navigation,” calling for increased allocation, Oyetola stressed that substantial investments are essential to support the ministry’s ambitions.
All the CEOs under the ministry were in attendance, including Bola Oyebamiji, the MD/CEO of NIWA accompanied by some management staff.
