MINISTER OYETOLA FLAGS OFF DISTRIBUTION OF 42,000 LIFE JACKETS IN MAJOR PUSH FOR WATER SAFETY

In a bold move to address rising boat mishaps, the Honourable Minister of Marine & Blue Economy, His Excellency, Adegboyega Oyetola has launched the distribution of 42,000 life jackets to waterway users in 12 riverine states. The initiative began today Tuesday 29th April in Niger State, hardest hit by accidents in 2024.

Each state will receive 3,500 life jackets in the first phase. The Ministry also donated patrol and passenger boats, including a water ambulance. Oyetola called the effort “a life-saving intervention” — part of a broader push to enforce safety and restore order on inland waterways.

“This event transcends mere ceremony; it embodies our unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of Nigerians who rely daily on our inland waterways” — H. E. Oyetola, at the flag-off in Minna.
