Core issues concerning Rodrigues’ agro-industry and fisheries sectors were discussed, yesterday, during a meeting in Port Louis, between the Minister of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries, Dr Arvin Boolell, and the Chief Commissioner of the Rodrigues Regional Assembly, Mr Franceau Aubret Grandcourt.
The Junior Minister of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries, Mr Gilles Fabrice David, was also present.
In a statement, the Chief Commissioner described the meeting as cordial and productive. He indicated that discussions centered on several issues related to the Ministry’s responsibilities in Rodrigues.
He raised concerns regarding the allotment of fishermen’s cards and bad weather allowance to ensure that local fishermen are not penalised. The protection of Rodrigues’ local products was also highlighted during the meeting.
Additionally, with the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festival, Chief Commissioner Grandcourt assured that measures would be taken to facilitate the export of the necessary quantity of meat from Rodrigues to Mauritius to ensure that there is no shortage.
