LiMA BOARD EXTENDS GRATITUDE FOLLOWING LIBERIA’S HISTORIC IMO VICTORY

The Board of Directors of the Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) has extended warm congratulations to the Government and people of Liberia following the nation’s remarkable victory at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council elections.

In a statement issued today, the Board Chair, Mr. Tornorlah S. Varpilah, applauded all stakeholders whose dedication, leadership, and coordinated efforts made the success possible.

“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to everyone for this historic achievement,” the statement reads.
“This victory speaks to Liberia’s growing influence in the global maritime sector and reaffirms our commitment to strengthening international maritime governance.”

The Board expressed deep appreciation to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Sara Beysolow Nyanti along with her two Deputy Ministers, Dr. Ibrahim Nyei and Cllr. Jeddi M. Armah, for providing outstanding diplomatic support throughout the campaign period in London and across the world.

The Board further acknowledged the vital role of Liberia’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, as well as Ambassador Christopher Hayes Onanuga, Board Chairman of the Liberia Tourism Authority, for their unwavering support and strategic presence at the IMO Headquarters during the elections.

Special commendation was also extended to the Commissioner/CEO of the Liberia Maritime Authority, Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe, Sr., and the Permanent Representative of Liberia to the IMO, Hon. Robert Wilmont Kpadeh, along with the technical staff, for their professionalism, tireless work, and well-coordinated campaign efforts that contributed significantly to Liberia’s success.

“This achievement reflects the strength of collaboration across our national institutions,” Mr. Varpilah added.

“We are proud of the unified leadership demonstrated and remain committed to elevating Liberia’s profile and performance in global maritime affairs.”

The Board of Directors emphasized that Liberia’s victory marks an important milestone for the country’s maritime program and positions the nation for greater engagement, responsibility, and influence within the IMO.
