Institutionalising Djibouti’s Blue Economy governance through strengthening National Coordination Platforms

IGAD’s Director of Agriculture & Environment Division, Mr. Daher Elmi, in his opening remarks emphasized the potentials of Blue Economy to build heathy economy, healthy environment and healthy communities in the IGAD region. He also stressed the need to improve the Blue Economy governance by Member States and IGAD is promoting this initiative.

The high-level discussion brings together experts from diverse Blue Economy related sectors of Djibouti. The discussion focuses on developing Blue Economy institutional setup and drafting terms of references for the National Blue Economy Platforms. Improving Blue Economy governance is the key for driving sustainable growth in Djibouti’s BlueEconomy.

Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MEDD) oversees Blue Economy coordination in Djibouti. This meeting was officially opened by Mr. Dini Abdallah Omar, Secretary General of MEDD.

This initiative is supported by SweinEthiopiae Enhancing Blue Economy in the IGAD Member States for Conservation and Livelihood Diversification.
